Year 1990 - 1999

1990


Dawn Dixon and G. Brian Karas become the first "Co-Regional Advisors" for SCBW in Arizona. The region has 56 members thoughout the state.

Karas creates the first SCBW Arizona newsletter for all members in the central and norther part of the state.

Dixon creates The Storyteller newsletter for all members in the southern part of the state.


1991

G.Brian Karas retires as Co-Regional Advisor.

Karen Clemens Warrick becomes Co-Regional Advisor.


1992

Dixon and Warrick combine efforts to produce The Storyteller newsletter.

The first SCBWI Arizona event "Recharging Your Batteries" is held in Tempe and in Tucson.

The first SCBWI Arizona critique group, 'The Mesa-Tempe-Chandler Group' is formed.


1993

The first two-day "SCBWI AZ Spring Conference" is held.

The first SCBWI Arizona "Speakers' Bureau" is created.


1994

The first SCBWI Arizona Illustrators' Network Group is establised.
Member Mary Ann Asciutto acts as the SCBWI AZ Illustrator Representative.

SCBWI Arizona critique groups form in central Phoenix, Mesa, Tempe, Chandler, Glendale, Scottsdale, Prescott Valley, and Tucson.

The first SCBWI Arizona Weekend Retreat, led by member author Jaunita Havill , is held in the Pines of Prescott.

The first SCBWI Arizona Author & Illustrator Book Signing event takes place.

The region's membership is up to 170 statewide.


1996

The first SCBWI Arizona One Day Writers' Workshop is held.

The first SCBWI Arizona Schmooze is offered.

The region's membership reaches 200.


1997

The first SCBWI Arizona Editors' Day is held in Phoenix.

The first Working Writers' Retreat replaces the annual conference format.


1998

Karyl Moore is appointed Assistant Regional Advisor.

2001

Karen Clemens Warrick retires as Regional Advisor.

Karyl Moore becomes Co-Regional Advisor.

The first SCBWI Arizona listserv is created by member Debbie Federici .
Federici acts as Critique Group Liaison.

The first SCBWI Arizona website is created by member Sheri Gilbert .



2002

Cindy Knox is named Illustrator Coordinator.

Michelle Parker Rock becomes Assistant Regional Advisor.

Karyl Moore retires as Co-Regional Advisor in December.



2003

Michelle Parker-Rock becomes Co-Regional Advisor.

Dawn Dixon retires as Co-Regional Advisor at the end of January.

2004-2005

SCBWI Arizona offers a variety of yearly events including conferences, retreats, micro-workshops, meetings, and schmoozes. The region provides an online listserv, and an updated website replete with members' links, a speakers' bureau, resources, and discussion boards for ongoing networking.

The region continues to grow and has a membership upwards of 400 writers and illustrators.



2005

Tanja Bauerle is appointed Illustrator Representative.


2006

Tanja Bauerle retires.


2007

Amanda Shepherd is appointed Illustrator Liaison.



2008

New SCBWI Arizona regional website is launched!
